  • Stresses Premadasa and SJB has no interest in joining UNP once more

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP S.M. Marikkar yesterday asserted that SJB leader Sajith Premadasa is leading all public opinion polls for the Presidential election, making him the clear choice of the people.

Speaking at a press conference at the Opposition leader’s office in Colombo, Marikkar said that Premadasa is poised to be the candidate with the highest public support in the upcoming election.

Marikkar stated that survey reports indicate a decline in the popularity of Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, while the support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Podujana Peramuna remains stagnant. “Public favourability of the NPP has dropped from 20% to 15%,” he claimed.

He emphasised that Sajith Premadasa has emerged as the leader in the hearts of the people across the country. Marikkar said all communities have thrown their support behind Premadasa.

The MP also accused President Ranil Wickremesinghe of making significant efforts to undermine SJB leader Sajith Premadasa’s chances of becoming President due to their personal animosity and class divisions.

However, he emphasised that such efforts will ultimately fail and Premadasa’s victory is assured.

Commenting on President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s recent remarks inviting Premadasa and other former UNPers to re-join the party, Marikkar stated that with Premadasa set to become the next President, the group has no interest in returning to the UNP or seeking its membership.

He emphasised that unlike Wickremesinghe, who has aligned himself with corrupt politicians from the SLPP, the SJB cannot collaborate with such a group.

Marikkar expressed concern over the perplexing statements being made by Wickremesinghe in the lead-up to the elections. He noted all tactics attempted by Wickremesinghe to delay the elections have now failed and he has no operational strength to win a Presidential Election.
