Sampath Bank’s Rs. 10 b debenture issue draws Rs. 14 b in demand

Sampath Bank’s Rs. 10 billion debenture issue has drawn nearly Rs. 14 billion in demand.

The bank issued 50 million Basel II compliant Tier 2 listed, rated, unsecured, subordinated redeemable five-year debentures of Rs. 100 each to raise Rs. 5 billion with an option to offer a further Rs. 2 billion worth of debentures and Rs. 3 billion on successive over-subscription at the discretion of the bank. When the issue was oversubscribed on its official opening day on 18 March, it had drawn 119 applications worth Rs. 13.87 billion. Applications with payments by cheque and RTGS were 113 worth Rs. 9.29 billion and six with payments made by bank guarantees worth Rs. 4.57 billion.

The bank intends to utilise the funds raised through the debenture issue to further strengthen the Tier 2 Capital Base of the bank.
