The Constitutional Council (CC) yesterday approved the appointment of Sanjeeva Jayawardena PC as a Member of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Jayawardena, whose name was nominated by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, will fill the vacancy created following the resignation of Chrisantha Perera.
The CC met under the Chairmanship of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and the participation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The others present included Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Sajith Premadasa, State Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, TNA leader Rajavarothiam Sampanthan, MP Thalatha Atukorale and MP Bimal Rathnayake. Jayantha Dhanapala and Javid Yusuf also participated in the discussion.
