Senior Prof. Hareendra Dissabandara returns to SEC as new Chairman

Senior Professor Hareendra Dissabandara is returning to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as its new Chairman, following the appointment to the top post in the capital market regulatory body by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake as Finance Minister.

Prof. Dissabandara previously served as SEC Director General from 2012-2013 as well as its Financial Services Academy and Capital Market Education and Training Division Director from 2008-2012. As SEC Director General, he initiated 10 key projects to accelerate the development of the Sri Lankan capital market.

He replaces Faizal Salieh, who was appointed in February 2023 by then-President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as Finance Minister. 

Prof. Dissabandara also served as the Deputy Secretary General of Financial Affairs, National Economic Council of Sri Lanka from 2018-2019. 

He holds a Ph.D. in Finance, Japan (MONBUSHO Scholarship), 2006 M.Sc. in Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and 2000 B.Sc. in Management (Special Degree), University of Sri Jayewardenepura, 1993. 

He is the Senior Professor, Finance and Corporate Governance, Department of Finance, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Vice Chancellor and CEO of Saegis Campus from 2019-2020.
