Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva along with the chiefs of the armed forces and the Police yesterday jointly called for calm from protestors and to avoid damaging public or private properties.

He said that the Sri Lanka Police and the three-armed forces have acted per the Constitution of the country. 

He urged the public to support the Police and the armed forces to maintain the peace.

The joint appeal was following a meeting with Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and requesting the latter to convene a party leaders meeting and reach political decisions until the new President is appointed.
