Speaker summons party leaders’ meeting

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has summoned a party leaders’ meeting for 11.00 a.m. today.

Parliament officials said that the discussion would centre on the functioning of Parliament with a minority Government, which will assume office today.

They would also discuss the possibility of summoning Parliament earlier than the next sitting date, which is fixed for 3 December. The UNP has 106 MPs in the present Parliament, while the UPFA has 95. The ITAK has 16, the JVP 6, and SLMC and EPDP have one seat each.
