The Sputnik V COVID vaccine developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Russia yesterday received approval from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) for emergency use in Sri Lanka.
Authorities are expecting supplies of the vaccine in the coming weeks, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Channa Jayasumana said yesterday, adding that this is the second vaccine to receive NMRA approval for emergency use in Sri Lanka against COVID-19.

“This vaccine is manufactured by the Russian Government-affiliated Gamaleya Institute. The National Medicines Regulatory Authority is currently holding discussions with the Gamaleya Institute on bringing down the Sputnik V vaccine as soon as possible,” Jayasumana said.
