Sri Lanka Customs yesterday announced that it has introduced an innovative online portal designed to verify the authenticity of legally imported vehicles.

This offers both buyers and sellers a seamless way to ensure the authenticity of their transactions. The portal accessible at https://services.customs.gov.lk/vehicles, aims to mitigate the circulation of illegally imported vehicles in the country and foster transparency in the automotive market.

“This platform empowers the public to confirm vehicle legality by entering the chassis number into the portal,” Customs Media Spokesman and Additional Director General Seevali Arukgoda stated.

The platform offers wide coverage, including details of all motor vehicles imported since 2002 and motorcycles imported since 2011. It is designed to be user-friendly, enabling prospective buyers and sellers to verify the authenticity of vehicles quickly before finalising transactions.

By ensuring that only legally imported vehicles are in circulation, the system aims to prevent fraud and protect consumers from purchasing unauthorised or smuggled vehicles.

“If a vehicle’s chassis number is not found in the system, users can seek additional assistance by contacting Sri Lanka Customs with further details about the data.
