Sri Lanka Tea Board signs deal to boost Pure Ceylon Tea sales in China

  • Four million kgs of sales forecast this year via MoU with China Fujian StarChina International Trade Company 

Sri Lanka Tea Board yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the China Fujian StarChina International Trade Co Ltd., a subsidiary of Bennie Tea Industry Co Ltd., to establish an online and offline marketing platform for Ceylon tea.

Through the cooperation the platform will ensure quality assurance of Ceylon tea manufacturers, original certification, minimum pesticide residue standards etc., and distribute "Pure Ceylon Tea" in China through a unified sales platform. 

The Chinese side will choose Ceylon Tea and loose tea to meet the taste of Chinese consumers. According to the forecast, at least four million kilograms of Pure Ceylon Tea will be imported through the platform this year.

Sri Lanka Tea Board Chairman Jayampathy Molligoda signed the MoU with the Chinese company via a cloud ceremony, whilst Sri Lanka's Ambassador in China Palitha Kohona was a witness.

The MoU further enhances the bilateral cooperation between China and Sri Lanka in the field of tea.
