Sri Lanka’s passport has moved up three places and is ranked 100th in the list published by Henley and Partners Index 2023.
The Henley Passport Index is based on exclusive and official data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
It is the original ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.

Sri Lanka moved up in the rankings, with 42 countries granting visa-free travel or visa-on-arrival arrival to holders of the Lankan passport.
The Sri Lankan passport was ranked 103rd in 2022 and 107th in 2021.
Japan topped as the world’s most powerful passport, for the fifth year in a row. The Japanese passport remained in its position with 193 countries granting visa-free travel or visa-on-arrival to holders.
South Korea and Singapore have emerged in joint second place with their passports granting visa-free access to 192 countries each.
Germany and Spain are joint third, with visa-free access to 190 destinations worldwide.
Three Asian passports emerging as the world’s most powerful ahead of what is predicted to be a big year for post-pandemic travel, will be an advantage to draw more tourists this year.
