Sri Lanka’s tourism resumption promoted in Germany

  • Lankan Embassy in Bonn working on sending first group of tourists from Germany shortly

The re-opening of the country for global tourists from next week was promoted in Germany by Sri Lankan Ambassador Manori Unambuwe via a key webinar.

She hosted a virtual meeting with Deutscher Reiseverband – DRV (German Travel Association) President Norbert Feibig and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau in this endeavour. 

Sri Lanka Tourism Chairperson Kimarli Fernando shared the guidelines and protocols in place with a view to welcoming tourists from Germany. 

With Germany being the second largest market in Europe for tourists, the importance of the Germany was highlighted by Fernando. 

Fiebig congratulated SLTPB for the comprehensive guidelines and extended the support of DRV to convey the message to the German tour operators. 

DRV Head of Political Affairs Adams Volker, Chief Delegate of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK) Andreas Hergenröther and AHK’s Malintha Gajanayake, SLTPB Acting Managing Director Madubani Perera, Director Marketing Dushan Wickramasuriya, and officials of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Germany also attended the meeting. The Embassy is coordinating with the respective authorities, to send the first group of tourists from Germany shortly.
