Sri Lanka has surpassed a significant milestone for 2024, with visitor numbers exceeding 1.2 million so far this year.
The first four days of August alone saw a robust influx of tourists, with 26,889 arrivals registered.
The month of August is traditionally a peak period for tourism in Sri Lanka, largely due to the Kandy Esala Perahera, a major cultural and religious event that attracts both local and international visitors. This festival, known for its vibrant parades and historical significance, serves as a substantial draw for tourists, contributing to high arrival figures and earnings.
However, industry experts claimed that if the Government had not disrupted the previous ETA system, by now more tourists would have arrived.
