Sheikh Afeefuddin Al-Jailani, the distinguished Grand Custodian of the Shrine of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani and the Supreme Head of the Thareeqathul Qadiriya World Sufi Order, will be in Sri Lanka today on a four-day visit.

His visit is eagerly anticipated by followers across the nation, bringing blessings, inspiration, and spiritual guidance to the people of Sri Lanka.

A respected and revered figure, Sheikh Afeefuddin carries forward the legacy of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani, one of the most prominent Sufi saints in Islamic history, who is renowned for his contributions to the spiritual and ethical traditions of Islam. As a direct descendant of both Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani and the Prophet Muhammad, Sheikh Afeefuddin has devoted his life to teaching and embodying the values of compassion, tolerance, and peace that lie at the heart of Islamic Sufism.

With a global following of over 100 million people, Sheikh Afeefuddin has become a beacon of peace and spiritual enlightenment in the contemporary Islamic world. His life’s work is dedicated to building bridges between communities and fostering harmony across religious and cultural divides. An internationally respected scholar, he has specialised in traditional Islamic religious and social sciences, and his teachings seek to preserve the timeless wisdom of classical Islam while making it relevant and accessible for modern audiences.

Sheikh Afeefuddin’s work goes beyond traditional religious boundaries. He is an advocate for peace and a symbol of unity in a time where religious and cultural misunderstandings have often led to discord. His message is one of inclusiveness, emphasising that love and respect are core components of Islam. He has delivered lectures, hosted conferences, and led discussions around the world, all aimed at promoting values of tolerance and mutual respect. In doing so, he draws inspiration from the works of grand Sufi scholars like Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani, Imam Al-Ghazali, and other revered figures, whose teachings emphasise the inner journey towards purity and connection with the Divine.

During his visit to Sri Lanka, Sheikh Afeefuddin will lead the Jummah prayers on Friday, 15 November, at the Dehiwala Muhiyyadeen Grand Jummah Mosque. This significant occasion is expected to draw a large congregation of followers and community members, all eager to join in prayer, seek blessings, and gain insight from Sheikh Afeefuddin’s teachings.

The Jummah prayer, one of the most important gatherings in the Islamic faith, is set to be a profound experience, with Sheikh Afeefuddin’s guidance reinforcing the principles of faith, unity, and compassion.

In addition to leading the Jummah prayers, Sheikh Afeefuddin will participate in religious ceremonies, prayer sessions, and community gatherings. These events will provide Sri Lankans with a unique opportunity to experience the warmth and wisdom of his teachings firsthand. Throughout his stay, he will also offer blessings, individual guidance, and spiritual insights, addressing the personal and social challenges faced by individuals and communities alike.

As a leader of the Thareeqathul Qadiriya World Sufi Order, Sheikh Afeefuddin regularly conducts spiritual retreats, classes, and forums worldwide. His teachings draw upon the essence of Sufi thought—promoting self-awareness, inner peace, and dedication to service for humanity. Through his efforts, he has introduced a new generation to the works of classical Islamic scholars, reviving interest in the profound moral and ethical teachings that address the needs and concerns of contemporary society.

In recent years, Sheikh Afeefuddin has continued to expand his efforts in building interfaith and intercultural dialogue. His ongoing work in fostering a spirit of inclusion and coexistence has earned him recognition from religious and secular organisations worldwide. His visit to Sri Lanka, therefore, holds immense significance as it comes during a time when his message of harmony is particularly resonant.
