The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) has welcomed and commended several of its members for extending overwhelming support to help the country to tide over the novel coronavirus COVID-19 crisis.

“A number of hoteliers have voluntarily offered their hotels to be used as quarantine centres, and additionally, we have received other volunteers who have offered their premises, should the need arise, but who wish to remain anonymous,” THASL President Sanath Ukwatte said.

He said as an industry association, THASL is strongly behind the Government at this grave hour, to help the country in the battle against the deadly virus which has crippled economies around the world.

“At a time when the community at large needs to support and supplement the initiatives of the Government in every way, the hotels sector is pleased to be able to make its own significant contribution to the national effort,” Ukwatte added.

Earlier this week, John Keells Holdings offered the 81-room Trinco Blu by Cinnamon in the East to the Government as a quarantine centre if the need arises, whilst Hemas Holdings PLC offered the 154-room Club Hotel Dolphin in Negombo. Citrus Leisure offered its 150-room resort in Waskaduwa for the same purpose.
