THASL opposes moves to legalise spearfishing 

The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) in a statement made it clear that it is strongly opposed to the suggestion, made in certain quarters, with regard to legalising spearfishing in Sri Lanka. 

“We understand that that the country’s tourism industry has also expressed vehement opposition to this proposal; THASL certainly wishes to distance itself very firmly from this initiative, which we regard as entirely inappropriate,” the statement added.

“We welcome Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa’s Twitter message rejecting this proposal. We also note that the Minister of Fisheries, under whose purview this matter falls, has clearly stated that this proposal does not find favour,” the statement said.
