The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) are to come to a final decision on their stance regarding the No-Confidence motion today (3 April) at a meeting to be held at the Parliamentary complex, while the JVP is set to submit evidence proving that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was complicit in protecting corrupt politicians allied to the Rajapaksas during the No-Confidence motion debate.
TNA spokesman MP M A Sumanthiran told the Daily FT that the party was yet to decide on a position regarding the No-Confidence motion against Prime Minister Wickremesinghe. “The TNA will be meeting at the Parliamentary complex around 2pm to decide on our stance.”
However, the MP noted that some parties in the Alliance were of a different opinion regarding the Motion.“The single EPRLF MP will be voting independently from the TNA,” he said, noting that the remaining 15 TNA Parliamentarians would come to a united stance at today’s scheduled meeting.
Meanwhile, the JVP will be submitting evidence during the debate on the No-Confidence motion against the Prime Minister tomorrow (4 April), proving that that he was protecting corrupt politicians allied with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, JVP MP Bimal Rathnayake told the Daily FT. “The No-Confidence motion states that the Prime Minister was responsible for protecting UNP MPs involved in the Central Bank Bond scam, but it has failed to mention how he safeguarded corrupt MPs loyal to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. We will reveal the deals between the two factions.”
He went on to say that currently it was the group affiliated to President Sirisena that was spearheading the No-Confidence Motion against the Prime Minister, and that the JO was divided. “At present it is those close to the President that is pushing for the No-Confidence motion against the Prime Minister. The Joint Opposition and those with former President Rajapaksa have struck a deal with the Prime minister and the UNP. We will expose all these clandestine activities during the debate,” MP Rathnayake said, while going on to assert that the JVP would be supporting the No-Confidence motion. (SG)
