Vistara Airlines of Tata SIA Airlines joint venture resumed its thrice-a-week services to Colombo from New Delhi yesterday after having suspended operations owing to the COVID pandemic.
An Indian full-service airline, Vistara first began operations to Colombo in 2019.
The first flight yesterday (UK138) (A320 Neo) arrived at BIA at 1010 hours with 138 passengers (three business class, 16 premium economy, and 119 economy class).
The first flight was welcomed with a celebratory water cannon salute upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport. Thereafter the passengers and guests were warmly welcomed with Sri Lanka Tea Board-sponsored Ceylon Tea gift packs followed by a traditional Kandyan dance performance.
The airline hopes to increase services daily from New Delhi and Mumbai in the near future.
Vistara Airlines is the only airline in India that offers premium economy cabins for passengers.
