Tea crop recovers in March; 1Q output at three-year high

Tea crop in March has recovered, posting a 25% gain, and first quarter output higher by 6.2%.

Asia Siyaka Commodities PLC, quoting preliminary tea production data for the month of March 2025 released by the Sri Lanka Tea Board, said the March crop was 24.4 million kilos, as against 19.5 million a year ago. It is also higher in comparison to 15.6 million kilos achieved in February. 

Following this recovery in March, national production for Q1 2025 has risen to 61.7 million kilos, up 6% on last year’s quantity of 58.1 million kilos. All three elevations are up year-on-year, with Medium-Growns higher 9% (11 million kilos), High-Growns 6% (13.8 million kilos), and Low-Growns 5.5% (36.9 million kilos).

The first quarter quantity of 61.7 million kilos is at a three-year high, Asia Siyaka Commodities said.
