The Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court recently imposed a fine of Rs. 75,000 against Niromi Trade Centre Ltd. for selling counterfeit “TOMMY HILFIGER” apparel and further issued an order to destroy such goods. The said Order by the Court was a result of a complaint filed by TOMMY HILFIGER through their local representative, Sudath Perera Associates.
TOMMY HILFIGER is one of the world’s leading designer lifestyle brands, founded in 1985, that delivers premium styling, quality, and value to consumers worldwide under the TOMMY HILFIGER and TOMMY JEANS labels, with a breadth of collections including Tommy Hilfiger Collection, men’s, women’s and kids’ sportswear, denim, accessories, and footwear.
Following TOMMY HILFIGER’s complaint, the Nugegoda Magistrate issued a search warrant against Niromi Trade Centre, which was executed by the Special Crimes Investigation Bureau (SCIB) of Mirihana. The search resulted in the seizure of a large stock of counterfeit TOMMY HILFIGER undergarments. The director of Niromi Trade Centre pleaded guilty to the charges when he was arrested and produced before the Court.
