  • Appoints Hiran Cooray as Committee Chair

Tourism Minister Harin Fernando has appointed a 20-member Advisory Committee under the provisions of the Tourism Act No. 38 of 2005 section 32 (b) which comprises experts from various sectors.

At the helm of this committee is veteran hotelier Hiran Cooray, who brings a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry to his role as Chairman. 

The committee includes distinguished individuals such as Priantha Fernando, Chalaka Gajabahu, Shirantha Peiris, Dr. Kishu Gomes, Panduka Keerthinanda, Saminda Perera, Suresh Rajendra, Rohan Abeywickrama, Darshana Tharanga, Mahen Kariyawasam, Chandra Wickramasinghe, Buddhika Hewawasam, Dr. Nirmal De Silva, Prof. Raj Somadeva, Aritha Wickramasinghe, S.K.P. Tharanga, Nirosh Gunawardana, Upali Dias, and Chandani Wilson. 

Each member brings unique expertise and insights to the table, reflecting the diverse perspectives necessary for effective decision-making in the tourism sector.

The appointment of this advisory committee underscores the Government’s commitment to revitalising Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, which has faced challenges in recent years. By leveraging the collective wisdom and experience of industry leaders, the committee aims to formulate strategies and initiatives to drive sustainable growth and ensure the long-term success of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
