Sri Lanka’s tourism sector continues its strong momentum in 2025, with over 175,000 tourists arriving in the first 20 days of February, marking a 15% growth compared to the same period last year.

According to the latest data, 175,436 tourists visited Sri Lanka between 1 and 20 February, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) total to 428,197 arrivals, marking a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 19%.

The first week of February saw a total of 61,667 visitors, followed by 63,164 tourists in the second week, and from 15 to 20 February, the footfall of travellers slightly dropped to 50,605.

To meet February’s target of 310,937 visitors, the country needs an additional 135,501 arrivals within the next eight days, requiring an average daily influx of 16,938 tourists.

In February 2024, Sri Lanka welcomed a total of 218,350 visitors against 107,639 registered for the entirety of February 2023.

The data also show that the daily average of arrivals has steadily increased, rising from 7,644 during the first 20 days of February 2024 to 8,772 during the same period in 2025. It also reflects an 8% growth month-on-month compared to the 8,153 daily average of arrivals registered in January 2025.

India remains Sri Lanka’s largest source market in 2025, with a YTD total of 68,668 visitors, followed by Russia with 56,376 visitors, the United Kingdom with 40,515 travellers, Germany with 12,393 visitors, and France with 11,187 tourists.

In the first 20 days of February, India contributed 25,293 visitors, Russia 22,280, and the UK 18,785 arrivals.

With Sri Lanka’s tourism industry rebounding strongly, industry experts remain optimistic about achieving the bold target of 3 million visitors and over $ 5 billion in earnings for 2025.

Continued strategic marketing, improved infrastructure, increased airline connectivity, and safety within the destination are expected to further boost arrivals and drive sustainable growth in the sector.

In 2024, the country welcomed 2.05 million visitors, generating over $ 3.2 billion in revenue—a 52.38% YoY increase.
