Confirming the challenging environment for the leisure industry, tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka in October have risen by only 1% to 152,429
Arrivals in the first 10 months have risen by 3% to 1.7 million. Earlier this year authorities were hoping to draw 2.2 million tourists, a target which industry analysts believe is likely to be missed.
Arrivals from Western Europe declined by -1% YoY to 42,416 persons in October 2017 whilst arrivals from East Asia rose +10% YoY to 34,870 persons. Meanwhile, arrivals from South Asia rose marginally YoY to 46,763 persons.
