Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka elects Shanaka as new President

The Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL) announced the election of its new leadership and Executive Council following its 49th Annual General Meeting held recently in Jakarta, Indonesia. 

Yenesha Travels’ Shanaka Fernando was elected as the President of the Association for the term 2024/2025.

In his address, Fernando highlighted TAASL’s enduring strength and shared his vision to transform challenges into opportunities for the association. A key priority during his tenure will be ensuring that TAASL continues to be a dynamic force within the travel industry, advocating for its members while staying adaptable in a rapidly changing environment.

Committed to member empowerment, Fernando expressed his dedication to enhancing professional development opportunities. By investing in education, he emphasised, “We empower our workforce and equip our teams with the skills and knowledge they need to excel. Our success lies in our people, and by nurturing talent, we will continue to strengthen our industry.”

Joining Fernando in leadership, Delair Travels’ Sonali Wijesurendra was elected as the Senior Vice President, and Acorn Travels’ Chamila Wijethunge as the Junior Vice President for the period 2024/2025.

The following members have been appointed to the TAASL Executive Council for 2024/2025:

2nd Chance Travels Ltd., Mohamed Riza Ahamat; Aitken Spence Travels Ltd., Nishantha Senaveratne; 

American Lloyd Travels Ltd., Ricky Rulach; B.O.C Travels Ltd., Romesh Samaranayake; Bongo Ltd., Wilhelm E. Brown; Classic Travel Ltd., Mohamed Sabry Bahaudeen; George Steuart Travels Ltd., Channe Wijemanne; N.F. Travel Services Ltd., M. Rameel Razman Rukshan; Scenic Ventures Ltd., Rizwan Ramieze; The Traveller Global Destination & Leisure Holidays Ltd., Rizmi Reyal and Travel Fantasy DMC Ltd., Dishal De Silva.

In addition, Duminda Kuruwitaarachchi joins the Executive Council in his capacity as Immediate Past President.

TAASL said it looks forward to a prosperous year under the stewardship of Shanaka Fernando and the newly elected Executive Council, who are poised to drive the association forward and represent the interests of travel agents across Sri Lanka.
