Two Customs Inspectors attached to the Colombo Port have tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. The two officers were serving at the New Container Gate (NTC) which connects the main entrance from Colombo Port to Ingurukade Junction.

Considering the situation, Sri Lanka Customs has decided four out of six main entrances to the Colombo Port have been closed. There are six main entry points where three inwards and three outwards from Colombo Port and only two are operating at present.

“A total of 25 close contacts of the two COVID-19 positive officers that include Custom Officials, Inspectors, Superintendents, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Officials and Security Personnel have been placed in quarantine centres with immediate effect, while 15 others will also be sent for quarantine,” Sri Lanka Customs Additional Director General Sunil Jayaratne said in a statement.

“From the very first day they reported ill, Sri Lanka Customs took necessary measures to prevent any issue from taking place,” he added.
