Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday said the Uma Oya project will add 120 MW of electricity to the National Grid by June 2023.
He announced it following a meeting held with officials of the construction and engineering company involved in the Uma Oya project via Twitter yesterday.
“Officials of Farab, the construction and engineering company assured that the construction will be completed by end of April and will be connected to the national grid by June 2023,” Minister Wijesekera said.
Iran-based Farab Co. is the EPC Contractor of the Uma Oya multipurpose project, which is one of the largest projects for exporting technical and engineering services among Iranian companies.
The purpose of the project is to improve irrigation of 5,000 acres of agricultural land, transferring 145 million cubic kilometers of water and generating 290 GW/h power in a year.
