In tandem with the Urumaya program, the Government is set to embark on a bold venture to create one million young entrepreneurs countrywide.
Recognising the potential of youth entrepreneurship to drive economic growth and innovation, the move is poised to unlock opportunities and unleash the entrepreneurial spirit of the country’s youth.
With nearly two million families already granted permits for the land they inhabit, the Urumaya program aims to confer absolute rights to Government lands to grantees and permit holders during the year.
The ground-breaking initiative seeks to empower households and strengthen land ownership rights, enhancing socio-economic stability and fostering community development.
To facilitate the seamless implementation of these initiatives, the Government plans to harness existing mechanisms at the Divisional Secretariat level.
By deploying the youth force of the National Youth Service Council across all 14,022 Grama Niladhari Divisions, essential information required for program execution will be gathered with the support of local Grama Niladharis.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal put forth by the Lands Minister at its meeting on Monday.
