Vajira clinches UNP’s National List seat in P’ment

UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena has clinched the sole and vacant National List seat of the party, after Ranil Wickremesinghe got elected as the interim President.

AGazette announcing the appointment of Abeywardena was issued last night.

Political analysts earlier speculated that the seat was being vied by several, including former Minister Sagala Ratnayake, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardena and General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara, apart from Abeywardena. 

Representing the Galle district, he had served as Internal and former Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and Local Government Cabinet Minister as well as Public Administration, Management and Reforms Minister.
