PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake

Electricity regulator, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka yesterday confirmed that the Water Management Secretariat has agreed to release adequate water from reservoirs to generate sufficient hydropower for the next couple of days.
PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said the Commission will reach a decision on Wednesday 1 February in relation to power cuts for the remainder of the 2022 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination.
A shocking and ugly power play flared up between key institutions of the State over the request for a temporary uninterrupted supply of electricity due to the ongoing G.C.E. Advanced Level exams and the failure to comply as authorities fired charges against each other.
The regulator is of the view that power cuts should not be imposed and has refused to approve requests for power disruptions by the Ceylon Electricity Board.
However, the CEB has continuously enforced power cuts since the beginning of the exams, notwithstanding the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka’s directive to prevent the disruption of power cuts.
