World Bank congratulates President; pledges support for economic recovery

The World Bank Group has extended its heartfelt congratulations to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on his election as the ninth Executive President of Sri Lanka.

In an official letter, World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region Martin Raiser and International Finance Corporation Vice President for the Asia and Pacific Region Riccardo Puliti expressed the organisation’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic recovery and development, a communiqué from the PMD noted.

The letter also highlighted the challenges facing the country, noting that the economic reset will require continued focus and attention from the State. It emphasised the significant opportunities for growth, prosperity and development that lie ahead under the new administration.

The World Bank Group reaffirmed its commitment to fostering inclusive growth and addressing the needs of the country’s most vulnerable populations under the new administration’s leadership.
