The three-day forum which is scheduled to kick off on 2 May aims to commit towards initiating a regional dialogue on sustainability leadership across the themes of governance, business, community, innovation lifestyle and non-profit management.
On 3 May, the delegation of participants will meet with Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya for a two-hour discussion on sustainability in governance.
In 2016, Rotaract Sri Lanka formally integrated sustainability and innovation as core elements of its program and has been creating lasting impact in driving sustainable action in communities with many impact stories across the country.
The strategic vision reflects in the initiatives undertaken by the Rotaract clubs led by Sri Lankan youth as it won top Rotaract honours as the most outstanding Rotaract project globally for two consecutive years.
In 2017, the prestigious accolade was clinched for launching a three-year project to improve lives in the rural community of Ranugalla. Moreover in 2018, Rotaract in Sri Lanka was awarded with top Rotaract honours for developing entrepreneurial skills to women with HIV and empowering them to establish a sustainable income source.
Speaking of the initiative, Rotary International District 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives District Rotaract Representative Amjad Yoosuf noted: “In line with Rotary International’s vision of Sustainability, the vision of Rotaract in Sri Lanka is to create a global Rotaract platform for young change-makers to be trained in Sustainability leadership.”
Moreover, adding to the accolades of Rotaract Sri Lanka and Maldives the youth-led volunteer organisation clinched the Overall Championship at the International South Asian Rotaract conference held in Goa in February.
Rotaract Sri Lanka and Maldives was also adjudged as the Best Disciplined District for the impeccable commitment to maintain high standards, Best Cooperative District for remaining transparent and proactive in communication and the Most Outstanding District for ensuring best practices in the region and developing a unique three-tier strategic focus for initiatives.
Commenting on winning several of the most coveted awards, Yoosuf said: “Rotaract in Sri Lanka has always been recognised for its professionalism in volunteering. The accolades are a testimony of the commitment of the young change-makers and we as a youth-led volunteer movement will continue to improve the quality and impact of the service initiatives.”
