Pioneering business magazine LMD has announced that its ‘Sri Lankan of The Year’ (SLOTY) for 2021 is singing sensation Yohani de Silva.

Paying tribute to the young musician, LMD notes that she “shot to international fame with her rendition of ‘Manike Mage Hithe’”.

LMD adds that “her heroics on the global stage and string of successes produced the positive vibes that we desperately needed, in addition to turning the spotlight on our precious nation – perhaps more than anyone else in the last 12 months – for all the right reasons”.

Bestowing due recognition to a role model for the country’s younger generation, the magazine asserts: “If there is one lesson Yohani has taught the young and impressionable Gen-Z and Alpha populations out there, it’s that any youngster can realise his or her dream by working hard and cultivating a positive mindset that says, ‘anything is possible’”.

LMD’s 27th Sri Lankan of The Year joins the company of many distinguished citizens over the years. The accolade has ranked among the island’s eminent awards since it was launched back in 1995, when the late Sri Lankabhimanya Lakshman Kadirgamar was nominated for the first of two such accolades – the second, posthumously.

The only other Sri Lankan to win SLOTY twice over is Kumar Sangakkara, who was named as such by the magazine for a second time in 2019. For the full story, log onto LMD’s website (www.LMD.lk).

LMD’s publisher, Media Services, says the print edition of the magazine will be released shortly while its digital version is available on WhatsApp and its social media platforms.
