Teams from Sri Lanka are now making a global mark in the mediation sphere. Most recently a Sri Lankan team has been invited to represent the country at the Warsaw Negotiations Rounds (WNR) in Poland.

The well-seasoned team is coached by Anuji Kannangara a certified Mediator, and will be led by Shayhum AbooSalih, a student at the University of London (UOL) who was part of the winning team at Bucrius Germany.

They are joined by Shanik Pakeer from Sri Lanka Law College who supported the team at the Last IMSG Singapore, where Simon Askey of UOL received letters of exceptional performance by the team.

Milindri Angammana a fellow mediation advocate has also been shortlisted to be part of the team showing potential through their own merit and are preparing to go to Poland for the 2024 rounds. The team would collaborate with WNR for many years to come. The team said this opportunity opens the doors for more students to partake in international events. The Sri Lankan Team hopes that more ADR bodies would extend such hospitality on a long term basis which will help fellow students arrange necessary finances and have their Visas approved well in advance to be able to participate more regularly worldwide.

“This is a huge milestone one that can be used to usher in more support to the country and its youth. Given the potential growth we are confident that the team can create the necessary impetus to elevate legal advocacy for everyone while bringing in resources that Sri Lanka needs in the current landscape,” said Team Leader Shayhum AbooSalih.

He said that negotiation is a key interpersonal skill which facilitates better conversations. The Sri Lanka team said it appreciates and is honoured by the work extended by Warsaw and expressed the hope that similar endeavours lead to the most fruitful and amicable settlements in the future.
