The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has recognised Sri Lanka’s high economic performance and therefore continued ADB assistance to the country is assured, according to ADB Executive Director Yeo Kwon Yoon.
The ADB ED said this when he met Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the Ministry office yesterday to discuss ADB-funded development projects in Sri Lanka.
The Minister Rajapaksa noted that the level ADB assistance to the country had risen and further funding is expected.
Economic Development Minister stressed the need for ADB assistance for new programs on infrastructure facilities, livelihood development, education and vocational training. He also focused on the importance of introducing the subject of technology to the school curriculum.
Expressing gratitude for the massive ABD assistance given to Sri Lanka for rebuilding the country after nearly three decades of war the Minister Rajapaksa also thanked the bank on the Government’s behalf for helping to launch a series of programs during the past five years. Among the participants at the meeting was the ADB’s Sri Lanka Director Rita O’Sullivan.
