ADB President visits Colombo Port Expansion Project

A team headed by Asian Development Bank President Takehiko Nakao visited the Colombo Port Expansion Project (CPEP) on Wednesday. The ADB has granted a soft loan of $ 300 million for the harbour infrastructure works of the project and worked closely with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) in successful completion of the project on time. SLPA has spent $ 100 million in addition to the ADB loan in this regard. The ADB President appreciated the development works of SLPA and specially commended on the success of the CPEP. Secretary to the Ministry of Highways, Ports and Shipping R.W. Pemasiri, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Highways, Ports and Shipping Anuradha Wijekoon, SLPA Chairman Dr. Priyath B. Wickrama, SLPA Managing Director Capt. Nihal Keppetipola, SLPA Chief Engineer (P&D) A.A.S.R. Abeysiriwardana and SLPA Senior Deputy Harbour Master Capt. A. Hewavitharana were also in attendance during the special visit by the ADB delegation.
