Annual reports, Sri Lanka’s latest win in global excellence challenge

  • New York ceremony today to hand over biggest-ever haul of 77 awards for annual reports  produced by three  companies
  The latest global excellence of Sri Lanka appears to be production of annual reports, as the inherent creative skills of the country grab the attention of the world. Today, for the first time, Sri Lanka as a country will be collecting the biggest-ever haul of awards at the International ARC Awards in New York. The awards are considered the Oscars of the annual report world. A spokesman for Smart Media – The Annual Report Company, said Sri Lanka has won a record breaking 77 awards this year. This year, the competition attracted 2,260 entries from 34 countries around the globe. Of these, 73 were garnered by Smart Media, and two each by Copyline and Emagewise. Smart Media’s bag includes an unprecedented seven Grand Awards, 20 Gold Awards, and 23 Silver Awards for its Sri Lankan clients. The top winners will be fêted at the exclusive Gold and Grand Winners Gala to be held at The Trump Soho Hotel in New York City today, 26 September. Lighthouse Hotel has won three Grands for the best Cover Design, Green/Environmentally Sound Annual Report and Printing & Production. Lighthouse Hotel was ahead of large hotel groups such as The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels Ltd., the holding company of the Peninsula Hotels Group, to win this award. Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC is seen rubbing shoulders with General Electric. They were awarded the Grands for the Best Online Annual Report in the rest of the world outside the USA and within USA, respectively. So Others May See Inc., a not-for-profit organisation, won two Grands for the best Written Text (Asia/Pacific) and President’s Letter ahead of Asian heavyweights such as Bank of China, Daiwa House Industry of Japan and Trinity Ltd. of Hong Kong. DFCC Bank bagged the Grand Award for the Best Annual Report of Sri Lanka. This award was won by National Savings Bank last year. Golds were won by Commercial Bank, LOLC Al-Falaah, Kelani Valley Plantations, CIC Holdings, Hayleys PLC, Dipped Products, The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka, Expolanka Holdings, Kanrich Finance and AIA Insurance Lanka. Silvers were won by People’s Bank, Seylan Bank, NDB Bank, Amana Takaful and the Colombo Stock Exchange. Amongst the Bronze winners were Mercantile Investments, Senkadagala Finance and Sampath Bank. The international exposure received at such forums reinforces the commitment to exemplary corporate communications. “The ARC Awards is the biggest and just about the oldest annual report competition in the world, duly recognised for its independence, integrity and international perspective. ARC Awards was established 27 years ago to honour overall excellence in annual reports and to encourage noteworthy and vital writing, as well as imaginative and original design,” a Smart Media spokesman said.
