At the Colombo Tea Auction held this week, Arbour Valley Tea Factory situated in Beralapanathara, in the Matara District established two all-time record prices for OP and OPA grades.
The OP was sold at Rs. 790 per kg whilst the OPA grade was auctioned at Rs. 770 per kg. Both teas were purchased by Inter Tea (Private) Ltd., a buyer of top quality low growns at the weekly auctions.
These teas resembled an excellent standard of manufacture, and several large buyers including Multinationals were found to actively bid for the teas, which were eventually sold to the highest bidder Inter Tea.
This factory is one of the finest low grown manufacturing units in the country with state-of-the-art machinery and is owned by Avantha Ratnayake, a third generation proprietary planter. The teas were sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd.
