The Sri Lanka Army will open the third wellness resort for disabled soldiers in Kurunegala in the North Western Province.
Named as Abimansala-3, the wellness resort will be opened on 25 April. The state-of-the-art wellness centre set up at Pangolla, Kurunegala will accommodate 50 disabled soldiers from the North Western Province who receive rehabilitation and therapeutic needs in the facility.
The resort will have eight villas, three cottages, and hydrotherapy and physiotherapy facilities and will also have an indigenous medical unit, medical laboratory and a medical ward.
The project to provide life-time care for the injured war veterans was initiated under the Defence Ministry and the first of the centres, Abimansala, was opened in Anuradhapura. Abimansala-2 was opened in Kamburupitiya and Mihindu Seth Medura in Attidiya.
The wellness centres will operate under Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake and the resort was completed through the ‘Brave Hearts’ project of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU).
There are 297 permanently disabled and dependent soldiers who lack proper and continuous therapeutic care and domestic facilities.
