Chennai: Ashok Leyland, flagship of the Hinduja Group, has received an order for additional 630 buses worth $ 17 million from private bus operators in Sri Lanka, the company said in a release Thursday.
The order, received through its joint venture in Sri Lanka, comes on the heels of a previous order for 2,200 buses from Sri Lanka, further consolidating its position as the market leader in the Sri Lankan market.
In a move to revitalise the State-run bus service, the Government of Sri Lanka placed an order with the Chennai-based company for 2,200 buses in June this year.
“This order is further evidence of the confidence Sri Lankan customers have in our capability to offer the most appropriate products and transport solutions to them, through our JV company, Lanka Ashok Leyland,” Vinod K. Dasari, Managing Director of Ashok Leyland said.
“This JV with the Government is a publicly listed company and has been performing very well for its customers as well as shareholders,” he added.
