Atchchuveli Industrial Estate to be opened next month

The Atchchuveli Industrial Estate will be completely developed in 2 stages and under the 1st stage 24 acres will be fully developed before end of January 2014 said Douglas Devananda, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development.
During an observation tour to the Atchchuveli Industrial Estate recently, to look into the work presently in progress. the Minister instructed the relevant officials to attend to all the work deemed necessary to start the 1st stage of the project in order to enable the industrialists to commence their ventures before the end of January 2014.
Upon completion of the tour the Minister said that action would be taken to open the 1st stage of the Estate before the end of January 2014.
The Industrial Estate, extending over an area of 64 acres belongs to the Ceylon Industrial Development Board (IDB). It was completely destroyed during the armed conflict that engulfed the Eastern and Northern Provinces alike, due to the concerted efforts resorted to by Minister Devananda, it has been made possible to rehabilitate the Estate with financial assistance from Indian and Sri Lanka Governments pumping Rs. 175 million and Rs. 25 million respectively. All the infrastructure facilities including, internal roads, drinking water, sanitary facilities and electricity have now been put in place. And the entry road to the Estate from A-9 high way in now being under rehabilitation.
Mrs. Shanthi Devi, Engineer in charge of UNOPS, Gangatharan, Jaffna IDB, Deputy Director; Chinthena de Silva, Board member of IDB and several officials accompanied the Minister on this observation tour.
