Basil finally gets bail

The Colombo High Court yesterday granted bail to former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa after it heard his bail application.

Rajapaksa and two others were released on Rs. 100,000 cash bail each with a surety of Rs. 1 million each. Rajapaksa, former Secretary of the Economic Development Ministry, Nihal Jayathilake, and former Divineguma Fund Director General R.R.K. Ranawaka were arrested on 22 April by the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) of the Police in connection with alleged financial fraud at the Divi Neguma Department, which was under the purview of the former Economic Development Minister.
