Big draw for ‘Invest in Hambantota’ forum tomorrow

A host of companies and investors have so far registered to find out new opportunities in Sri Lanka’s emerging hub Hambantota to be highlighted at a key forum tomorrow in the southern town. Titled ‘Invest in Hambantota,’ the investment forum organised by the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce will be held on Saturday 31 August from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium at Sooriyawewa. Its objective is to showcase new opportunities in a host of economic sectors in Hambantota as well as update private sector on the progress of key infrastructure development initiatives. HDCC will present an overview on the business and investment climate in the Hambantota whilst the keynote on ‘The Various Business Opportunities in the Hambantota District, in the Context of the Wider Development of the Sri Lankan Economy’ will be delivered by Central Bank Deputy Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, whilst Board of Investment Chairman Dr. Lakshman Jayaweera will also make a presentation. The master development plan for Hambantota District will be explained by UDA Director Southern Province Ananda Samarasinghe whilst presentation on the Hambantota Port and associated opportunities will be made by Agil Hewagegana, Director (Southern Port Development) of the Ports Authority. Presentation on Mattala Airport and associated opportunities will be made by the Airport CEO Derrik Karunaratne. Sri Lanka Tourism will also make a presentation on the leisure sector opportunities. The forum will also feature a panel discussion which will be followed by a question and answer session. Targeting international, national, potential and existing investors and top heads of companies and senior Government officials, the event will serve as a platform to be updated on the status of ongoing development projects and explore available investment opportunities. In addition to this, participants will be able to interact with the relevant senior Government and business officials in the region and witness major development activities that are taking shape.
