Big draw for next week’s Economic Summit says Ceylon Chamber

The Sri Lanka Economic Summit will get underway on 4 July 2011 under the theme ‘Driving Growth through Fast Track Implementation’.  The organisers are well pleased with the unprecedented good response this year and look forward to a landmark event that will surpass expectations.     

On day two of the summit, experts from State and non-State sectors will discuss and deliberate the plans and programmes in force to improve the country’s education and skills development efforts during the session on ‘New Growth Opportunities – Education and Skills Development’. 

The Keynote Speaker would be Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake with University of Moratuwa Vice Chancellor Prof. Malik Ranasinghe speaking on ‘University Education in Sri Lanka – Challenges and Opportunities’.

A panel discussion would follow with Ministry of Higher Education Secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne, Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka Assistant Director – Job Placements and Career Guidance Panitha Ratnayake, South Asian Institute of Technology & Management (SAITM) Chairman/President Dr. Neville Fernando and Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) CEO Prof. Lalith Gamage. The session will be moderated by Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) Director Prof. Uditha Liyanage. 

The breakout sessions in logistics (ports, shipping and aviation), agriculture, plantations and food security, healthcare and health insurance and construction will follow prior to the wrap-up plenary session on ‘Breaking the Bottlenecks in Development,’ where Parliamentarians from the Government and the Opposition will have the opportunity to express their views and discuss key issues affecting economic development in Sri Lanka before an audience consisting of private sector leaders.
