BOC lends $ 10 m to Maldives Government

BOC Chairman Dr. Gamini Wickremasinghe, after his recent visit to Maldives, initiated a Revolving Credit line of US$ 10 million to the Government of Republic of Maldives with the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.This will result in developing bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and the Maldives generating more benefits to Sri Lankan exporters of fruits and vegetables and will also pave the way for the small farmer groups to find a market for their products. 

The official ceremony announcing this arrangement was held at the Ceylon Continental Hotel on Thursday with the participation of Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Naseem, Maldives Ambassador in Sri Lanka Hussein Shihab,  Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Geethanjana Gunawardena, President   National Chamber of Exporters Sarath de Silva, officials of Sri Lanka Exporters Association, Chairman Bank of Ceylon Dr. Gamini Wickremasinghe, General Manager Bank of Ceylon W.A Nalani, Deputy General Manager (International & Treasury) Bank of Ceylon H.M.A.B. Weerasekera,  Asst. General Manager (Offshore Banking) Bank of Ceylon Dayani Fernando and Asst. General Manager (Overseas Branches) Bank of Ceylon Ranjith Haputhanthri. Representatives of Government of Maldives and officials of the Bank of Ceylon also participated in the event.
