Bourse gains on foreign buying

Reuters: Stocks hit a one-week high on Friday in thin trade, gaining for the second straight session, buoyed by blue chip shares such as Distilleries Co. of Sri Lanka, while foreign inflows also boosted sentiment, traders said. The main share index rose 0.39%, or 22.46 points, to close at 5,808.62, its highest since 20 September. Foreign investors were net buyers of Rs. 91.5 million ($ 693,200) worth of shares on Friday, extending net foreign inflows over the past seven days to Rs. 1.18 billion. They have been net buyers of Rs. 19.81 billion worth of shares so far this year. Shares in Distilleries Co. of Sri Lanka Plc rose 3.17% to Rs. 189. Friday’s turnover was Rs. 409.1 million, the lowest since 12 September and well below this year’s daily average of about Rs. 875.1 million.
