A recent LMD-commissioned opinion poll conducted by TNS Lanka reveals the citizenry has both bouquets and brickbats for corporate houses in this country. According to TNS Lanka’s island-wide poll results, over two-thirds of the people believe that businesspeople in our island are ‘high achievers’.
“They are deemed so mainly due to their clever conduct of business and successful profit making,” says LMD, adding that “at the same time, a majority of respondents (60%) agree that corporates are now benefitting from a peaceful country situation.”
But the story is very different when it comes to the ‘corruptibility’ of local businesspeople, with less than a fifth of respondents agreeing that corporate executives are not susceptible to corruption, while more than 60% disagree with this statement.
A spokesperson for LMD’s publisher Media Services states: “An even smaller proportion – of just 13% of the sample population – says that business and politics don’t mix all that well in Sri Lanka. This is an eye-opener for our businesspeople.”
LMD also observes that “to take Sri Lanka Inc. to the next level, the people suggest that businesses conduct operations in a fair manner, open local industries, start new businesses, obtain foreign expertise and ultimately, engage in business that will boost the national economy.”
