CABINET, on a proposal made by the President, approved the setting up of an electronic system at the Department of Immigration and Emigration to issue visas over the internet to foreigners visiting Sri Lanka.
Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told a press briefing that foreigners visiting and travelling via Sri Lanka will be able to obtain visas through the website of the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka by personally applying for them on payment of the prescribed fees.
Those who do not have private access to internet facilities will be able to apply for visas through private agencies to be established for the purpose, through Sri Lankan foreign missions and from the Head Office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
Technical consultancy service, including for the implementation of the system, will be obtained from the University of Moratuwa.
