The Cabinet this week approved new measures to improve math education at G.C.E. Ordinary Level.
In a bid to prevent children of the age of having compulsory education leaving schools due to failing the mathematics subject at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination, the Cabinet approved the proposal made by Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena to provide further facilities.
With a view to retaining in the school system the students who fail the subject at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination, the following measures were approved: to provide an opportunity for the students who have performed well at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination but failed in mathematics, to pass the said subject within two years; to permit such students to follow the Bio Systems Technology of the O.C.E. (A/L) technological subject stream in addition to the O.C.E. (A/L) art subject stream; and to conduct separate extra classes in mathematics for such students.
