Several special projects are to be implemented by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation (SLLR&DC) to prevent flooding in Colombo and to promote sustainable urbanisation.

Conservation of Muthur-ajawela wetland and drainage of Kaluoya rain water and environment enhancement is expected to be undertaken as one of  these projects.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka, to implement above projects at an estimated cost of Rs.3,878 million, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Thousands of people were affected by recent rains around the country, particularly in the capital where traffic jams and flash floods seriously inconvenienced commuters and residents alike.
