UNP MP Dr. Harsha de Silva yesterday, whilst welcoming the action against the former NSB Chairman, urged the Bribery Commission to catch the bigger fish who are equally responsible for the alleged white collar crime.
Here is the statement issued by the UNP MP yesterday:
Finally the Bribery Commission has found the courage to go after the big fish. However, why is only Mr. Kariyawasam being charged? If there is evidence against him, then there is certainly much more evidence against the others in the group that I was instrumental in exposing earlier this year.
The Commission must not wilt under pressure but press charges against even bigger fish serving today at much higher positions than Mr. Kariyawasam did then and also those white collar criminals at the centre of this scam, who are masquerading as business giants. No one can clap with one hand!
If it is possible to clean up the muck at the Colombo Stock Exchange, then it would be possible to rebuild confidence in the market, which will have a strong positive impact on the right kind of investments required to meet Sri Lanka’s post war challenges in development.
