The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the country’s premier business chamber in a statement yesterday expressed concern over the recent post election incidents and the breakdown in the rule of law.

“Whilst acclaiming the positive developments since the end of the conflict in May 2009 in stimulating the nation’s rapid economic growth prospects, it fears that such incidents will erode confidence in the spheres of both local and international business, particularly in regard to investment. This could inhibit the realisation of the true potential of the peace dividend,” the statement said.

“The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce is confident that the appropriate authorities will act expeditiously and judiciously to ensure that the hard earned peace and stability of the country are preserved, thereby creating an environment conducive to achieve its development aspirations,” it added.
